The Taconite State Trail traverses 165
miles from Grand Rapids to Ely. The trail intersects with Bear
Head State Park Trails and the Arrowhead State
Trail. The first
few miles of this multi-purpose trail are paved for rollerblading and
biking. The remainder of the trail is known for its winter snowmobiling.
During non-winter months the trail is used for hiking, mountain biking,
and horseback riding.
