Moose Hunting

Yes, hunting is allowed in the Boundary Waters.  As with canoeing, permits are required in the BWCA.  The challenge as well, for moose
hunting, is the fact that motors, wheeled transportation devices, and
machinery is not allowed in the BWCA.  This makes a challenge for hauling
the moose out and keeping it cool enough to stay fresh.  Hunting in the BWCA is not recommended except for experienced hunters with with past Boundary Waters experience.

Additionally, the Department of Natural Resources requires a hunting license and a orientation session.  Both BWCA permits and hunting licenses are limited in number for each area of the BWCA.

Moose hunting in Minnesota is limited to residents only, by permit.  Beginning with the 1991 season, moose hunting has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in Minnesota.
