FULL SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR YOUTH
CANOE TRIP
While many Minnesota residents may be
familiar with the BWCAW and its thousands of
lakes and streams, for others it is a remote and
foreign place which they may never visit because
of cost or distance. To alleviate that barrier,
two families established a scholarship with the
Boundary Waters Wilderness Foundation to bring
Twin Cities youth to the BWCAW.
This summer, the Boundary Waters Wilderness
Foundation and Wilderness Canoe Base will offer
trips for 15-19-year-olds to the wilderness. The
nine-day canoe and camping trips to the BWCAW
are June 24-July 2, July 23-Aug. 1, and Aug.
8-16. The trip costs $410 but full and partial
scholarships are available.
For most of the participants, it is their
first visit to the BWCAW. The trip offers them a
chance to build confidence, work in a group,
learn about the area, and make friends.
Interested youth, or adults who know of an
interested teenager, are encouraged to contact
Sean Wherley at (612) 332-9630 or sean@friends-bwca.org
for more information.
