This
is the beginning of our 24th
year of looking at wildflowers
in Cook County, MN. We are three
senior women who just love to
get out and explore and learn
new things. We are even getting
together all winter but don't
find too many flowers at that
time, but no matter.

Earlier this
week we went to Duluth. On the
way we stopped at the Split Rock
Wayside Rest and hiked back to
the falls. What a beautiful
walk. We saw some of our old
friends that we don't see much
of in Cook
County:
Water Hemlock, Fringed
Loosestrife (not to be
confused with the invasive
Purple Loosestrife) and
Bittersweet Nightshade. There
was a Mystery
Flower on the Scenic Highway
towards Duluth. Can any one help
identify it? (email
)
On Wednesday we went on Cougar
Trail (above Maple Hill Cemetery).
We knew we were late but we did
see
the
remains of Pinesap,
Indian
Pipes and One -flowered Wintergreen.
It's a Red Pine forest and the
breeze through the leaves was
such a nice sound and the layer
of needles below our feet just
felt GOOD!
