This is the beginning of our 25th year of looking at wildflowers in Cook County, MN. We are three senior women who just love to get out and explore and learn new things. We are even getting together all winter but don't find too many flowers at that time, but no matter.

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006 - Report by

Mother Nature usually cooperates and gives us good weather on Wednesdays. However today was total fog along the shore. We had intended to go farther down to see the Bloodroots but visibility was too bad for us to feel safe. The new green leaves on the trees were very dramatic compared with last week. We saw Pussy-toes blooming earlier than ever before. As we were driving along Devil Track Road we saw something bright yellow. We stopped to examine it and found it was a willow with yellow catkins. Neither of us remembered seeing it before - however after that we saw them all over. We had probably seen them before but just didn't notice. The flower of the week was the very bright yellow of the Marsh Marigolds in the ditches along the road and back into low areas. The strawberries are starting to bloom.
