Another day we went up the
Arrowhead Trail, turned on Irish
Creek Road and then a overgrown
walking road off that. We found
a Grape-fern. It really looks
like no big deal, being only
about 6" tall and scraggly - but
I hadn't seen one for 15 - 20
years.
Then another day we walked
The Fen off the Old Ski-hill
Road
For Orchids we saw:
Ragged
Fringed-orchid, one
Rose Pogonia,
many Ladies Tresses and most
special in that we hadn't seen
it before was Small Green
Wood-Orchid.
Now for our Wednesday
adventure. We first went to a
location in Lutsen and saw,
within about a block, the
beautiful Small
Purple
Fringed-Orchid. Fifty-one of
them ! ! Along the roadways we
saw:
Fireweed, Daises,
Goldenrod,
Black-eyed-Susan,
Tansy, Mullein, Dock, ST. Johnswort,
Pearly Everlasting,
Joe Pye and
Yarrow. Down low
next to the roads we find Hop
Clover, Rabbit's-foot Clover and
Bird's-foot Trefoil.
We are all concerned about
the fire up at Sea Gull lake
called "Cavity Lake Fire". The
conditions all over the county
and over most of the state are
Very Dry. It's Sad !
At Tait river we saw a lot of
Joe Pye &
Water Parsnip and one
Purple Fringed-orchid. On
Barkers Lake Road we enjoyed all
the
Black-eyed Susan's,
Turtlehead, Depthford Pinks,
Daisy Fleabane &
Spreading
Dogbane.
Lunch on a fishing dock at a
near-by lake to finish up a
wonderful day - even though it
was hot.
