This is the beginning of our 25th year of looking at wildflowers in Cook County, MN. We are three senior women who just love to get out and explore and learn new things. We are even getting together all winter but don't find too many flowers at that time, but no matter.

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006 - Report by

I cheated and started my report on Tuesday not expecting to see anything in bloom on Wednesday. Well I was wrong. We first went on the Pike Lake Road near Peterson's and were pleasantly surprised to see not only Bloodroot blooming but also Wood Anemone, Spring Beauty and 2 Dutchman's breeches. We don't usually see any of these until the first or second week in May. We also went up the Gunflint Trail just beyond the second set of brown signs to see if the Trailing Arbutus was blooming and we were pleased to find that also. The day was beautiful but the wind was a bit chilly. We ate lunch on the fishing dock at Mink Lake.
