Saturday I went to visit
my friend in Moose Valley.
We had a wonderful walk
through her woods. I was
especially pleased to see
six
Long-bracted orchids and
some shrubs we had trouble
identifying.
Monday J & I walked about
three miles along highway 61. We
were surprised at how many small
flowers we saw that would be
missed from a car:
Bunchberries,
Wild Lily-of-the Valley,
Starflower,
Wild Roses and Star
Chickweed. It was nice being out
- so fresh after the rain.
Wednesday - We have had quite
a lot of rain and it shows. The
different greens in the woods
along the roads are so fresh.
The maple woods are just as
beautiful now as in the fall.
Today we went > Schroeder >
Temperance River Road > 600 rd >
Sawbill Trail. Most of the showy
flowers along the roads were
yellow:
Buttercup,
Hawkweed and more Silverweed
than we remember seeing in one
place. On the Cramer Road we saw
Golden Alexander's. It's been
several years since we have seen
them. It makes me think of
Mary. This is a good year
for
Mt. Ash and
Highbush Cranberry white
flowers and also white on the
roadside:
Daisies, Caraway and
Yarrow. As a contrast in
blue were
Iris and
Lupine. Everything was
wonderful except: black flies,
biting House type flies and
wood ticks. We were
searching for
Solomon Seal and
Twisted-stalk but they were
through blooming - next year. We
did find the Small
Sundrop road
but that "crop" was rather slim
and they are only 2-3" high.
Lunch at Tofte Park - home 4:00
with smiles on our faces.
