We had gotten a clue about a new area for Trailing Arbutus. It was blooming in Bette's garden so we thought we would check it out. It was on the Sawbill Trail just south of the eastern section of the Grade road. There were so many blooming Arbutus on the Trail - but there was a Forest Service road near and we hiked that and the quantity of them was so great that Bette said that she was tired of seeing Arbutus and that she wanted to turn around. Spring seems early this year but our records say that we have seen Arbutus from 5/2 - 6/5.

We then went on the Clara Lake Road into the gravel pit where on the opposite side of the pit there is a beautiful path to Silver Lake, I believe, for a carry-down (if you are young and strong). Last fall we found this trail marked on the Superior Forest map and coined it a "Magic Trail".
