Report
by
May 9, 2007: We took the Ward
Lake Road off the Caribou Trail
a bit over a mile. There is an
area in a maple woods that you
can see Dutchman's-breeches and
Spring Beauty "as far as the
eye can see". They were just
beginning to bloom. Spring is so
exciting, the leaves on the
trees are just starting, the Red
Maples are blooming. The day was
beautiful except for the
terrible
Ham Lake Fire that
continues doing horrendous
damage near Sea Gull lake. Let's
not think of that now!
Honeymoon Trail > Sawbill
Trail > 600 road - where we were
surprised to see
Bloodroot - we
hadn't seen it there before -
then to Two Island Road where we
had seen
Bloodroot before & there it
was - in many places. Farther
down there were some
Yellow Trout Lilies and we
had to stop the car and walk -
the golden flowers are small and
scattered and are hard to see -
but we found them blooming along
with yellow - blue - and white
violets.
Lunch at Grandview Park - a
long and wonderful day
It should be a good time to
go to Oberg Mountain and see the
Dutchman's-breeches and
Spring Beauty - there are
many of them there.
