First we visited the new
Handicap Trail near the
Recreation Park in Grand Marais.
It isn’t quite done but we were
very pleased with what we saw,
especially the variety of
wildflowers:
Dutchman’s-breeches,
Mertensia, Oak Fern,
Nodding Trillium,
Clintonia,
Wild Lily-of-the Valley and
Starflower.
Today was a dark, dreary day
but it didn’t dampen our
spirits. We went up to the Lima
Grade to visit the bog. There
were so many Leatherleaf
blooming, also Cotton-grass,
Bog Rosemary, Mountain Fly
Honeysuckle and Pale Laurel
in bud.
On our way the blooming
things we saw were: Bearberry
(first time I saw it blooming in
this county), Purple Violets,
Pussy toes, Blueberries,
Wood Anemone,
Gay-wings and
Strawberries. It seems like
a big year for
Wood Anemone.
